German Trejo

National Program and Field Director

German Trejo Caballero has dedicated his life to defend the rights of Immigrants in the United States and Mexico, and to contribute to the betterment of Hispanic/Latinos through public service and civic participation. An Immigrant from Mexico, Trejo-Caballero was appointed in May 2008 as the Chair of the LULAC National Commission on Immigrant Affairs (LNCIA) by LULAC National President Rosa Rosales.

In addition to LNCIA, German Trejo Caballero is the President and CEO of g&t Consulting, a full-service consulting firm serving governmental, political, non-profit and corporate clients in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

From 2005-2008, Trejo Caballero served as Consejero for the Mexican communities in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Southern Illinois to the Government of Mexico-Institute for Mexicans Abroad. In his position, Trejo Caballero met numerous times, both in public and private meetings with some of Mexico’s top-decision makers, including Mexico’s President and his Cabinet, and the country’s 32 Governors and Legislators, regarding issues pertaining the Immigrant Mexican community in the United States and Canada.

During his tenure as Consejero, Trejo-Caballero was elected to serve as Chair of the Institute’s Political Commission, and as Chair of the Emerging States Region (and its more than 40 representatives) for the Institute for Mexicans Abroad. In addition, in November 2006, Trejo Caballero was selected among its fellow Consejeros to be the first Mexican Immigrant to deliver a speech to President Felipe Calderon at the Presidential Residence in Los Pinos.

Many issues raised by Trejo Caballero have caught national media attention, including the petition to the President of Mexico to create “Border Reception Centers” to receive deported Mexicans from the United States on the Mexican side, providing them with medical attention, a telephone to contact their families and money to buy a ticket to return to their Mexican state of origin.

From 2007-2008, Mr. Trejo Caballero was appointed by the Ohio Secretary of State to serve as the only Hispanic/Latino and first Immigrant Board Member for the Ohio Voting Rights Institute, where he was part of the Institute’s electoral recommendations in regards to voting systems and electoral legislation for federal, state and local elections in Ohio.

Prior to his appointment as LNCIA National Chair, he served as the South West Ohio Regional Field Director for the Democratic National Committee-Ohio Democratic Party for the 2008 presidential primary and general election. In this position, he oversaw all political and field operations in 17 counties in Ohio (Including top-cities like Cincinnati and Dayton). Trejo Caballero was charged with the political operation of the Presidential Primary Caucus in the 3rd. Congressional District and with the subsequent electoral outcome for the Democratic Presidential Primary in this 1.9 million registered-voters area

In addition to these positions, German Trejo Caballero served as the President of Centro Mexicano, a community organization; and the International Institute for Democracy, where he lead electoral observation missions to the presidential elections of Mexico 2000, Peru 2001, Nicaragua 2001, state elections in Ohio 2002, Argentina 2003, Russia 2004, Tanzania 2005 and Mexico 2006.

In the private sector, Trejo Caballero served as President and CEO of Language Associates Ltd –a 150 employees translations firm with offices 10 cities in the United States, and representatives in Mexico and Japan.

In addition, Trejo Caballero has worked in several political campaigns at the senior level, including serving as Finance Director for State Senator Luz Robles in Utah, Hispanic Outreach Director for Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, State Political Director for the Minimum wage campaign in Ohio, Campaign Manager for the US 4th Congressional District, and Hispanic Outreach Director in Wisconsin for Presidential Candidate John Kerry, among others.

Numerous U.S. and foreign institutions have honored German Trejo Caballero, including The Ohio Senate, the Utah Senate, the Texas House of Representatives the City of Columbus, the Ohio State University, MLS Columbus Crew, the U.S. Congress, the Congress of Argentina, the Congress of Mexico, and the Congress of the State of Michoacan.

Trejo-Caballero has been featured by Univision’s Al Punto con Jorge Ramos, Televisa, TV Azteca, El Universal, La Jornada, La Cronica, Radio Latino, and other innumerable media in the United States and Latin America.

German Trejo Caballero studied Architecture at the Universidad Michoacana in Morelia Mexico, and graduated with a B.A. in Political Science-International Politics emphasis; and International Studies- International Relations and Diplomacy focus, from The Ohio State University.
