Yanidsi Velez
Field Organizer
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, daughter of Luz N. Quiles and Fidencio Velez, and sister of Alexis the younger brother, at the age of 8 years old her family immigrated to the Dominican Republic for Business Opportunities. At the age of fifteen she moved back with her family to Carolina, Puerto Rico where she completed her high school and went on to received her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Communications from the Sacred Heart University. During her University years she worked for the Hospitality Industry as Restaurateur. During her time off she volunteered at Ser De Puerto Rico, “Alianza para un Puerto Rico sin Drogas”, Heineken Jazz Fest, Wyeth-Ayerst Pharmaceuticals Health fair and Youth Summer Extreme Games these experiences allowed her to develop her passion to the Community Service. In 2007 Yanidsi moved with her husband to Kissimmee, Florida. While she was doing volunteer time in Adult Literacy League she continued post graduate education in various fields at Valencia Community College where she received the MKA 2008 Student Award for academic Excellency. In 2008 she joined Democracia U.S.A. as canvasser, rapidly advanced to the position of captain and then to Recruiting and Training Specialist. After the 2008 elections Yanidsi kept engaged with Democracia U.S.A. and her community. This young progressive grassroots leader and entrepreneur is the Chair and Founder of Hispanos al Dia, Inc and is now an integral part of Democracia U.S.A. working on staff as Field Organizer.
